For English teachers

Grove English helps English teachers make flashcard sets and quizzes, run groups and set homework. You can build a material from text you already have and send it to your students as one link.

One homework, one week

Follow one homework from a word list to the results.

  1. Cards from text

Paste a word list, one card per line: word - definition. A line without a separator is flagged. Then save the set and publish it.

  2. A group

Enter your students' emails. Each student sees the invitation in their account and presses “Accept”.

  3. Homework

Build one homework: your set, a ready quiz from the catalog and a rule from the Grammar section. One due date, and a condition for each material.

  4. On the student's phone

In My groups the student sees the materials in order and how many are done. It also says that a quiz counts only the first attempt.

  5. Who has done what

See who is done, who was late, who is in progress and who has not started. A first quiz attempt below the required score? “Let redo”, and the next one counts.

A made-up example to show how it works.

No group yet? The “Share link” button in the editor gives you a link to a published set or quiz: a student opens all of it without an account.

What you can do

  • Sets and quizzes from text

Paste a list of words, one card per line: word - definition. A Russian translation can follow after “ | ”. A whole quiz can be pasted as text too, with pages of different types. The editor shows which lines are ready and which have a problem.

  • Quizzes

Seven page types: single choice, multiple choice, type in the gaps, choose in the gaps, matching, translation and rewrite the sentences. A page can have an instruction, an example and a YouTube video; a question can have an explanation the student sees after checking. Quizzes can have a timer and shuffled questions. Pictures can be added to questions once your account has been reviewed.

  • Translation in quizzes

On a translation page, students translate Russian sentences into English. The check does not fuss over capital letters, punctuation or contractions like don't. You can also choose the other direction: students then compare their translation with your model, with no points given.

  • Homework

One homework holds sets, quizzes and grammar rules in order, with one due date. Each material has its own condition: learn every card, finish the quiz or reach a minimum score, tick “I've read it” for a rule. Some materials can be optional. Use your own materials or ready ones from the public catalog. You can see who has done it, who was late and who has not started yet.

  • Groups

Invite students by email. A student accepts the invitation in their account, and in the group you see their rank, XP in all and this week, streak and the last day they were active. A group can have a weekly XP goal.

  • A link for students

The “Share link” button in the editor gives you a link to a published set or quiz, which you can copy, replace with a new one or revoke. With it a student opens the whole material without an account: every card, or every page of the quiz with the answers checked.

  • Not from scratch

Duplicate your own set or quiz and change it. Once your account is approved, the page of a Grove English material has “Copy to my materials”: the copy becomes your draft to edit.

  • A prompt for an AI chat

Describe the task, and the editor builds a prompt with the material's level and title. Paste it into your own AI chat, then paste the chat's answer back into the import box.

Questions

Do students need an account?

Not for a link: the set or quiz opens in full and quiz answers are checked, but without signing in the quiz result is not saved. To join a group and get homework, a student signs in with Google and accepts the invitation.

When will others see my material?

A published material opens by link and in your groups straight away. It appears in the public catalog and in search once we have reviewed your account. Pictures in quiz questions can be added after that review too.

Can I set a ready-made material from the catalog?

Yes. You can set as homework your own published material, any set or quiz from the public catalog, or a rule from the Grammar section.

Can I get a material back as text?

Yes. The “Export as text” button in the editor shows the material in the same format the import reads. You can copy the text or download it as a .txt file.
