C2 Proficiency

English at C2 (Proficiency)

C2 is the top of the CEFR scale. A learner at this level understands with ease virtually everything they hear or read. They can bring together information from different spoken and written sources and retell it coherently, keeping the logic of the arguments. They speak spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, telling apart fine shades of meaning even in complex situations.

Our C2 sets are about precision: verbs of speech and thought, of change and of movement, precise adjectives for character, rare but useful adverbs, and words that are often confused. There are also sets on formal, legal and literary register, Latin and French expressions, literary and historical idioms, and the language of politics and diplomacy. The exercises cover modals of deduction and criticism, cleft sentences and fronting, word formation and collocation. This level is for learners taking their English down to the finest detail.
