Everyday phrases: English by topic
Your first phrases in English are for saying hello, introducing yourself, thanking someone and saying sorry. At A1 this topic has a set of greetings and introductions. It gives greetings for different times of day (Good morning, Good afternoon, Good evening) and ways to say goodbye (Goodbye, See you later). There are the questions that start a conversation with someone new, and the answers to them: How are you?, I'm fine, thanks, What's your name?, Where are you from?, Nice to meet you. And there are the polite words for every day: Please, Thank you, You're welcome, Sorry, Excuse me. Phrases like these are best learnt whole, without taking them apart word by word: in conversation people say them ready-made. They are a good place to start if you have only just taken up English or are getting ready for a trip.
